Highway 99 and Squamish

October 16, 2023 to November 23, 2023

After Wells Grey, the plan was to drive to Squamish so we went back to Kamloops, got some groceries, and headed out towards highway 99. Our first stop was to stay a few nights and work at this campground, which was free because it wasn't peak season anymore.

We stopped at the Seton Lake Lookout where you can hike up a little hill to look over the road and lake. I brought my drone but when I went to take off I flew it straight into a tree, and it got stuck. It wasn't a tree we could climb, so we had to throw rocks to try and dislodge it. Rachel managed to hit and break one of the branches that it was stuck on, and it tumbled out of the tree and down a cliff. After an adventurous climb down, luckily the drone only really had minor damage to one blade.

The rest of highway 99 was absolutely beautiful! We don't have a lot of photos, but just driving in and out of gorgeous treed valleys, with mountains all around was stunning. We got to Whistler, checked out a local bakery, and decided to stay in the campground to do some chores. We watched the sunset with our baked goods and coffee.

When we did laundry, it got tangled more then I have ever seen laundry get tangled before. This ball was twisted to the point of being hard, and took me over 20 minutes to get unwound.

A big thing Rachel and I wanted to do this fall was to try downhill mountain biking. We had tried to go in Revelstoke, but everything was shut down. Lucky for us, Squamish had 1 good weekend left for us! The weather was perfect. My first few runs down I may have yelled "this is terrifying!" a few times, but we made it to the bottom each time, and had an amazing day. So fun!

Next up for firsts (ish) was getting back into rock climbing! I hadn't rock climbed since going to the boiler room in Kingston when I was a teenager. We got a membership at the gym and it was also so fun! Squamish is definitely more of an outdoor climbing destination, so the gym was pretty small and the routes were fairly hard, but there were enough options to keep us entertained!

A last first for the fall, our feet were tired so we got pedicures!

Best coin machine ever, even if the laundromat was the most expensive ever :P

Keeping our batteries topped up during Squamish fall rainy weather was an ongoing battle, which I definitely lost here. I actually made it to 0% 🙈

It was a pretty low key fall and start to winter, but we had some amazing views, fun times, and new experiences!
